SSN GUT FIRST has been carefully formulated to offer a solution to horse owners that are baffled by a myriad of poor condition indicators that do not seem to have a clear origin. At the very least, optimizing the microbiome can help even the healthiest of horses by making many metabolic functions work more effectively, just by allowing the horse’s body to better utilize what is given to him.
HOW SSN GUT FIRST CAN HELP
- Scientifically formulated to support the health of the complete gastrointestinal system
- Enhances gut health to optimize nutrient absorption
- Reduce Nervousness and anxiety by tapping on the Gut-Brain Axis (brain and gut are connected through the Vagus nerve)
- Immune support (70%-80% of the immune system of the horse resides in the gut)
- Resolution of gut related disturbances within 2 weeks
WHAT IS IN GUT FIRST ?
A Unique combination of ingredients to improve Total Digestive Health
1-3 BETA GLUCAN – PRIME TO PROTECT
The Beta Glucans in GUT FIRST prime your horse’s immune system to protect against disease and stress. Stress, heat, trailering, stall confinement, breeding, feed, social changes and pathogen exposure can challenge a horse’s immune system resulting in reduced performance, respiratory disease and Leaky Gut Syndrome. Beta Glucans’ role is to alert the immune system of foreign substances or pathogens. Including a bioavailable source of Beta Glucans in the diet can help support the immune system .Our beta glucan source, algae, is mostly the bioavailable 1,3-beta glucan, whereas yeast provides mostly the less bioavailable 1,6-beta glucan. Rather than fully activating the immune system (which depletes available calories) the Beta Glucans in GUT FIRST prime the immune system without draining crucial nutrients and energy.
BACILUS SUBTILIS – INHIBITING PATHOGENIC BACTERIA WITHOUT HARMING BENEFICIAL BACTERIA
GUT FIRST contains PB6 a proprietary, patented strain of Bacillus Subtilis. PB6 is a unique, safe and naturally occurring probiotic that has been proven to kill a number of equine-specific pathogens – including a variety of Clostridium species.
It has demonstrated equine safety in foals and adults. PB6 secretes one or more biocidal proteins that inhibit certain equine-specific strains of pathogenic bacteria such as Clostridium Perfringens. These proteins disrupt the membrane of bacteria leaking the cell contents and ultimately killing the pathogenic bacteria without harming beneficial gut microflora. Pathogenic bacteria like Clostridium Perfringens create lesions in the small intestine lining allowing harmful pathogens and toxins to pass through into the bloodstream resulting in intestinal inflammation and disease. PB6 in GUT FIRST, inhibits pathogenic bacteria growth, maintaining a healthy microbial balance in the digestive tract.
ORAL SODIUM HYALURONATE – STOMACH LINING INTEGRITY SUPPORT AND MORE?
Published studies show the resolution of gastric ulcers after 30 days of use due to the Hyaluronic Acid binding to the stomach mucosa. Its survival to the hind gut is not as well studied but we have found an overall transformation in horses with loose stool/fecal water syndrome, which made its inclusion into this formula a great addition.
BUTYRATE AND ZINC – STRENGHTENING THE GUT LINING
Butyric acid is a short-chain fatty acid (or SCFA) created when the good bacteria in your horses’ gut breaks down dietary fiber. During times of stress adding additional butyrate to the diet can help to maintain a healthy intestinal lining.
- Butyrate and Zinc strengthen the lining of the gut and the tight junctions (vital to the health and performance of the horse as it improves nutrient absorption and provides a strong barrier against pathogens, parasites and toxins). If the intestinal barrier is compromised – either through damage of the cells that make up the lining or by breakdown of the tight junctions – harmful substances can cross into the bloodstream. This damage is typical of horses under stress and is referred to as Leaky Gut Syndrome (LGS). Providing Butyric Acid and Zinc directly to the cells that make up the intestinal barrier can lead to a lower incidence of LGS improving performance, behavior and overall health.
- The unique encapsulation technology ensures that the target nutrients are released slowly throughout the upper and lower intestinal tract. Without encapsulation, because it’s a volatile fatty acid, it would never make it back into the intestines. Through this time release process, the tight junctions are coated and strengthened — improving the integrity of the intestinal lining.
- Provide energy source used in the growth & development of the intestinal lining and colonocytes
- Support immune function
- Reduce gut inflammation
- Stimulate digestive enzyme production
- Affect and prevent the colonization of Salmonella and Campylobacter
- Positively influence the composition of the gut microbiota
- Supports the development of intestinal villi, increasing the absorption surface area
- Helps alleviate “fecal water”
- Zinc expedites wound healing
- Butyric acid can help insulin resistant horses by increasing hormones that help stabilize blood sugar levels
* Butyric acid is a volatile fatty acid, which means it basically disperses in air and as soon as it hits the stomach or intestine, it gets absorbed into the body. So it has a less-than-desirable odor: we have added a dash of peppermint essential oil and apple flavor to make it more palatable. Should your horse refuse to eat GUT FIRST, you can administer with an oral syringe.
